It’s hot outside. Very hot. So hot, that you’ve reached your boiling point and can’t fathom lifting a finger. But you don’t have to be so bogged down by the heat dome. Here’s how to chill out:
1. Cool off with an ice pop. There is nothing better than a refreshing ice pop when it’s sweltering. It’s even better when you make it yourself, choosing ingredients that support healthy skin. Our suggestion: this Watermelon Mint Ice Pop recipe by EatPops founder Sophie Milrom.
2. Spritz yourself down. A few pumps of a revitalizing facial spray will instantly give you a cooling sensation, while also calming hot, irritated skin. We’re obsessed with Moisture Surge Face Spray Thirsty Skin Relief, which contains bio-activated aloe water and caffeine to deeply hydrate, nourish, and soothe skin. As it evaporates, you’ll feel it actually cool you down. Stash a bottle in your desk, your car, and your fridge so you can mist yourself throughout the day. Plus, it’s totally safe to spritz over your makeup—it won’t smudge or remove what you have on. In fact, it’ll refresh your makeup and give you a pretty allover glow.
3. Chill your pillows. If the AC isn’t cooling down your bedroom enough, put your pillowcases in a plastic bag and stash them in the fridge for 10 minutes right before going bed. A cold pillow will keep your neck and face nice and cool, making you feel chill from head to toe.
4. Take a hot/cold shower. You may be eager to jump right into the sweet relief of an icy-cold shower, but cold water won’t remove daily sweat and oily residue. That’s because oil breaks down at higher temperature (around 95-98°F). So lather up in warm water first for a thorough cleanse, and then take a cool rinse to temporarily constrict your pores and lower your body temperature. Take that, heat dome!
5. Go oven-less. A hot oven contributes to an even hotter home. So opt for light, fresh, no-cook meals. We love these Skin Hydrating Paleo Wraps by nutritionist Rosemary Ferguson. Want a sweet treat at the end of a brutally hot day? Give this crushed macaron ice cream recipe a try.
